What’s a QR Code and how do I use it?

By now, you’ve probably seen a code on a billboard, bus stop or magazine ad. Does this application make sense for you and if so, how do you implement it? Let’s take a closer look.

When Should I Use Them?
Since, QR codes have been developed as a quick response reader by a smartphone camera, it’s better to create QR codes that take the user to a mobile version of your website rather than your full website. Why? Because your full website won’t be fully functional on a mobile screen. By sending the user to a mobile version, they’ll be entering an experience truly designed for the environment they’re in – through their smartphone.

The Options Before You
So what are the options?

Have a version of your full site for a mobile site; this is a dedicated mobile site of your website.

Create a mobile landing page that will instruct the user to contact you and guide them to go to you full site

Have your site designed to work on all platforms

As smartphone usage is only growing further thanks to the iPhone and Android market,it’s time to get serious about incorporating a whole new element of excitement into your marketing by creating your own personalized QR code.

In my next post, I’ll speak to how you can create this unique code in a way that applies to your business.

How To Create A QR Code

Designing a QR code to be unique is a process. It’s not as simple as adding your logo to it and there are certain rules to follow. Ultimately, the design of your code has to be read by all QR Code readers. Design is important, but it also has to obviously take your user to a place where you want them to go!

The steps for creating a code include:

Have a defined goal of where you want to send your user

Create your QR code ( http://www.100ideas.us/qr)

Take your logo and QR code and combine them in different ways

Always test to see if your QR application works

After you add your logo, experiment with colors

Remember it’s typically better to use dark colors so a reader recognizes the code

Test

Test

9 Creative Ways To Use QR Codes

By now, you’ve probably gathered that QR Codes are a unique way to invite users to go to a website, watch videos, visit a landing page and more. But how can you take advantage of a QR Code to generate traffic to your site and create more customers?

I’d like to show you 9 creative ways you can do that and if you come up with another way besides these 9, I’m going to provide you with a special reward at the end of this post.

1) Your Business Card
Beyond the standard name, title, phone number and e-mail, having a QR Code on the back of your business card shows the person that you have a degree of web savvy and it opens the door for more conversation based on the destination you’re sending them to.

2) Your Website
You’ve got the appointment lined up. Now how do they actually get to your office? If they scan a code on your site that gives them map directions, their phone is dialed in to take them smoothly to the meeting.

3) On Flyers Redirected to Your Mobile Site
What makes someone hold onto a flyer for a crucial extra second or two? The fact that you have a code that sends them to a mobile site designed for their phone can be the difference between them holding onto it or pitching it.

4) On Print Ads Redirected To Your Mobile Site
A QR Code on a print ad transforms it into a launch pad that can take the user from reading to participating.

5) As An Image That Shares Info
Rather than trying to cram too much detail into a small space (i.e. a business card), you can divide and conquer by letting your code tell more of the story and keep that space clutter-free.

6) A “Teaser”
Some brands will have minimal things they let out of the bag right away and simply tease the audience with a headline and the QR Code. This can be a terrific tactic for building awareness.

7) In An E-mail Close
How many times have you seen a QR Code as a call to action? Probably not very many, which is why it’s unique and unexpected. Perhaps the code takes them to a place where they can watch a demo of your product.

8) In An Event Invitation
What’s the biggest challenge people have in going to an event? Remembering where it is. A QR Code with a map to the event location fixes that in an instant.

9) Tracking Visitors
QR Codes are great metrics, especially when it comes to tracking the number of visitors to a specific location on your website. This can help you identify which areas of content are resonating with people more than others.

Got a few more uses of QR Codes? I’ll make it worth your while.
If you share your ways to use a QR code in a creative way, I will give away a FREE mobile site with 6 months free hosting or if you would like to host yourself, I will give you the files and the instructions on installing it on your site.

The mobile site will include:

5 pages: Home, About, Gallery, Info, Contact Us

Free hosting for 6 months

The Gallery will have 10 pictures

The Contact Us page will have a direct button to make a call, send e-mail and Google map

Not responsible for any liability or future problems that this free site could incur.
